Well, now that my house back in Holland has finally been sold, the search for a new home can be started !! We've been waiting for this for almost a year now !! Also, after being a year without a car, now have my own Toyota Camry GX (year 2002 with 98,000 kilometres.)

The original plan was to live in Australia, but Gerrie's visa problems put an end to that idea ...... so all the preparation for that area has to be repeated for New Zealand. Houses here are relatively much more expensive, so that means that we have to look way outside Auckland. After looking east and west, we have now decided to focus on the north .... either Orewa / Whangaparaoa (the Hibiscus Coast) or much further up north near the Bay of Islands.

We'll let you know here how the search is progressing. (last update 18 November)
24 November: we now own the Tavern !!!!! We take posssession on 12 December. Also ... the Web Site is up and running at www.coroglentavern.com
18 November: Check out the Tavern page for latest news. Click here for the latest news on purchasing the country tavern !!!
14 November: Click here to go to the Web Site for the Tavern (most stuff is finished now .... will shortly be getting a real domain name and a server located at a web hosting centre.)
11 November: Well ..... the decision has been made, and the contract has been signed, now just waiting for the last things to be checked ... and then it is a done deal !!! What was a search for a house (plus a job for me, and for Gerrie), became a search for a business that provided work and a place to live for the two of us ... and we found it !!! Guess, well, actually, it is the tavern .... we are now owners and operators of a NZ country tavern, where it really starts to buzz at Christmas/New Year ... we expect 2500 people for a major band performance on 30 December, and a few other gigs over the Christmas/New Year period. Maybe next year we can get Gerrie's band to come over to do a performance here !!
Previously (31 October) Now back to looking at Whangaparaoa for a rental home and a business !! See the Photo Albums for photos of the Great Food Company, which is a Lunchbar & Cafe which we are thinking of taking over. Will rent a house nearby.
Previously (17 October): Now having a look at taking over a country tavern, this one is on the Coromandel Peninsula.....
Icon country pub with all facilities including accommodation for backpackers and owners accommodation. Country kitchen with quality pool and dart clubs. Gaming machines add to the mix with big outdoor area for bands and parties. Well situated to capture tourists, locals and backpackers.

Previously ... looking at a tree farm with 86,000 pine trees (you can do interesting things with the Kyoto agreement - carbon sinks mean that you can earn money just by letting trees grow - sit back and enjoy the sun !! )
Well, it sounded interesting, and then we heard that it was not near Opua, but 40 minutes further north ...... and then we got an email from the real estate agent describing it in a little more detail ....
Hi David, The property is at Takahue Rd Broadwood this is a rural village. It has an area school (infants to adults). A shop, policeman, golf course, A&P showgrounds, hall, church etc
The house needs a water blast and steam clean . The plumbing needs to be checked. There are pit sawn walls, timber floors that would come up really nicely if sanded, a porch, a wood burner stove. The electricity was put up to the house but I am not sure if its connected. There is a big implement shed near the house. Property was roller crushed before the trees were planted. Keep in touch, Cheers Cynthia

Here are maps of the two areas ...

This is the Hibiscus Coast .....

And here is Opua, in the Bay of Islands ...

And this is a photo of the tree farm ...
