Formed in October 1987, Arctic Heat very quickly received recognition in The Hague, the Dutch Rock City. Recognition which continued to spread further through the Netherlands

After a series of locally acclaimed performances during the first six months of 1988, the band was chosen to participate in the first "Hague Plein Festival" - a talent contest which Arctic conquered to loud applause.

In 1989, Arctic Heat was invited to participate in the "Paperclip Popslag" (the Paperclip Battle of the Bands), a national television contest presented by the Dutch television station NCRV, in celebration of the NCRV's 60th anniversary.

The following year saw Arctic Heat chosen as the "Demo of the Year" with a recording made and produced by the Eindhoven Tango Studio.

Top point of the first half of 1991 for Arctic Heat was a performance in the Gortstraat during the Queens Night Festival. And as a result, an invitation to play for two nights in the Gouda Jazz Festival in September.

In June 1991, working with producer Michael Jansen, in Studio Nederland, the band recorded four numbers for their new cassette single "I Just Wanna". (These songs are available for download from this web site).

The music of Arctic Heat is best described as melodious power rock, with roots of the band members varying from reggae, beatles, punk, top jazz; and their music showing influences from groups as diverse as U2, Iron Maiden, Jimi Hendrix, Herman Brood, Janis Joplin, and Thin Lizzy, to name just a few.

Arctic Heat was:

Gene Southwood (Gerrie Zuijderhoudt) - lead vocals
Marcial Lorenzo - bass guitar
Franky Fernandes - drums
Joaquin Lorenzo - lead guitar and backing vocals

Maya, backing vocals
Helen, backing vocals

And in the early years (1987 to 1990):
Guido Huffenreuten - guitar

With a large repertoire of their own compositions as well as many covers varying from the 1960's to the 1990's, Arctic Heat presented a varied exciting performance combining showmanship, exuberant public, superb light show.

To quote an early press report: "enough to turn the coolest critic into a devoted fan.

The biography of the band ended with the slogan ....            Arctic Heat , you better be ready for it.

In 1992, the band gave its last performance, at a private party.

Today, the band members still live in The Hague, and they still play together , in various other formations. There is talk of reviving Arctic Heat, a band that is still known and remembered by its fans, ten years later.
